CNN: Thirty great classics of Italian cuisine in a TV series

Stanley Tucci accompanies us to discover the Italian food and wine, historical and cultural heritage. With the new program for CNN "Searching for Italy", broadcast every Sunday from February 14th to March 21st 2021, the famous Hollywood actor accompanies American viewers to discover products, dishes and protagonists of the gastronomic history of our country.

Una original series consisting of 6 episodes produced by Raw TV for CNN. The 2010 Oscar nominee for “The Lovely Bones” is accompanied on his itinerant gastronomic journey by culinary experts, cooks and local artisans. The goal is not only to tell the rich food and wine culture that distinguishes our country, but also to dispel some archaic stereotypes: Italy is not only the country of pasta, pizza and mandolin.

Each episode is dedicated to a region or an Italian city: Milano with saffron risotto and cutlet, but also the ritual of the aperitif. Treviso with his Tiramisu. Roma with carbonara and amatriciana, Bologna with the classic ragù, Parma ham, Parmesan and balsamic vinegar of Modena. The first episode was dedicated to Napoli and Amalfi Coast, in which the actor revealed the secrets of true Neapolitan oven-baked pizza and Ischia-style rabbit, to be eaten strictly without cutlery, but also with buffalo mozzarella. TO Florence, on the other hand, focuses on poor cuisine and vineyards, in particular on the buchette (small underground cellars where the wine was poured), in the company of the historic Elisabetta Digiugno. You last but not least, you will experience the flavors of Sicilia with pasta alla norma and with a foray into Sicilian wines that have gained the attention of international critics in recent years.

Un homage to his homeland. Son of an art teacher in Tuscany, originally from Cosenza and a housewife from Cittanovia, in the province of Reggio Calabria, Stanley Tucci lived in Florence for about a year. All his children have Italian names: Nicolò, Matteo, Camilla, Isabel Concetta and Emilia Giovanna.

The Italian-American actor, writer, director, documentary maker has always had a passion for cooking: in 2012 he published the cookbook Tucci Cookbook and in 2014”The Tucci Table: Cooking with Family and Friends”, thanks to the collaboration with chef Gianni Scappiò, who recounts his childhood memories. Then he wrote other books with his second wife Felicity Blunt, until, during the first lockdown, he launched an amateur web series on Instagram, trying his hand at preparing some cocktails, from the classics to the more innovative ones created by him. From the cinema to the "counter" to TV: the famous actor's love for food knows no bounds.

Furthermore, Searching for Italy is the first cooking program launched by CNN after the tragic death of chef Anthony Borudain. After only two episodes, the CNN has already announced the second season.
