Cloud, Noovle (Tim) joins the European maxi-alliance to build interoperable services

Noovle, the subsidiary of the Tim group, joins forces with the main providers in the pan-European project Lighthouse Structura-X, created to define common requirements, based on portability and interoperability, in order to promote the development of a new European-level federated cloud model in line with the principles of Gaia-X. The project complements the previous specific lighthouse initiatives for the automotive (Catena-X), agricultural (AgriGaia) and financial (EuroDat) sectors. The first certified offerings should be ready by the middle of this year.

The initiative emerged on the sidelines of the recent Gaia-X Summit in Milan in November. The then German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier had already called for the construction of Gaia-X compatible infrastructure in Europe together with the services of the sector. In coordination with the Gaia-X AISBL foundation, seven European providers initially agreed on the common goal: Atos, Aruba.it, DE-CIX, Deutsche Telekom, Engineering, Noovle and TOP-IX.

The common goal is to transform their existing infrastructure services into an ecosystem for European data sovereignty. The creation of a global European cloud infrastructure for sharing and accessing data is underway, facilitating collaboration in different fields (such as, for example, Automotive, Mobility, Energy), through the adoption of technical requirements and procedural and common ethical principles.

Users will be able to test and deploy their own services and data rooms in a Gaia-X approved infrastructure. Structura-X will work closely with Gaia-X AISBL, which among other things defines the technical framework for data sovereignty. At the same time, Structura-X will enable the scale needed for new cross-sector and transnational collaboration in the cloud, overcoming the fragmentation of the European cloud market.

Carlo d'Asaro Biondo, CEO of Noovle, said: “Noovle will support Lighthouse Structura-X, actively participating in the construction of the Italian hub. This initiative aims to define a new context of rules and relationships that favors the development of a sovereign, cohesive European cloud capable of competing in an open and transparent way with the offer of global Hyperscalers".
