Publicly controlled Italian cloud: here is the offer of 4 big names

Create an alliance between public and private to give life to National Strategic Pole, the new infrastructure it will have to manage in the cloud all the data of the Italian public administration. This is the objective of the offer presented to the Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition by a consortium of heavyweights: Cdp Equity (subsidiary of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti), Leonardo, Sogei e Tim.

The four groups specify that – if their offer prevails at the end of the public tender – a group will be formed newco with capital thus divided: 45% to Tim, 25% to Leonardo, 20% to Cdp and 10% to Sogei.

With regard to the division of tasks, Tim will be in charge of cloud infrastructures and platforms, Leonardo of security and Sogei of "business culture enablement" and training. Cdp Equity, on the other hand, will play the role of financial shareholder and institutional investor.

“The goal is to provide innovative services to citizens and businesses, in line with the provisions of the Pnrr and recent regulatory interventions on digital infrastructures - reads the joint note - The project consists in the provision of cloud solutions and services in support of the PA with a view to ensuring the highest possible level of efficiency, security and data reliability " .

The project, continues the note, "will involve economic operators of primary importance in the field of technological and digital services, with the aim of pooling the best skills and the most advanced national and international technologies, also making use of the collaboration of Cloud Service Providers and leading technology suppliers, which will be managed according to the principles of sovereignty provided for by the legislation".

The National Strategic Pole “will be equipped, through the shareholders, with new generation data centers (Tier IV), with high levels of security and energy efficiency, and in line with global best practices (four data centers in two regions); it will also provide complete and advanced services, with a particular focus on cloud solutions. The PA will be assisted throughout all the phases before and after joining the contract, also in terms of personnel training".
