Climate, 361 actions in the Italian adaptation plan: there is little to be happy about

The adaptation plan has been approved but the money is not there. Can Giorgia Meloni take charge of it directly?

Climate, 361 actions in the Italian adaptation plan: there is little to be happy about

Italy is always at risk for every climatic event. Nothing new. For save yourself we need contingency plans and above all money. Nothing new encore. It is the State that must provide. Nothing new three. And let's end it here.

The majority of Italians pay taxes, after all, also to avoid drowning in the event of floods and to lose their homes, shops and businesses in the event of landslides and mudslides.

For three days the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin he explains to us that after six years and four governments, the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC) was approved. Not bad and he certainly isn't to blame for the grief of the long years spent in stills.

Endless risks

The Plan contains 361 solutions to deal with emergencies. Who knows why not 365 or 366, maybe one for each day of the year. Well, if the Ministry takes a closer look at the 2024 calendar, they realize that a river (God forbid!) can overflow even on February 29th. Then there is always time to review that Plan. At Cop 28 in Dubai Giorgia Meloni he explained for 20 minutes what there is to do in Italy and the Mediterranean. Yesterday at the press conference just a few hints

Last year there were 378 events in the North as well as in the South (+22%) costing more than 11 billion euros. Since the spring disaster in Emilia-Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini remember every day that thousands of Emilia-Romagna people are waiting for compensation.

How much money can the miraculous PNACC count on now? Trick question for the whole government. An ad hoc decree must be approved to finance it e among others, Stephen Ciafani, president of Legambiente, told Pichetto "allocate the necessary economic resources or the risk is that the plan remains only on paper." And not a single euro can be found in the financial law.

The prime minister is sensitive to climate change and if she wants to increase her standing as a leader she has another good opportunity to call out the "company" on this issue.

Journalists were neutral at the press conference yesterday: Chiara Ferragni has more appeal than climate change.

It goes without saying that the Italians have become accustomed to the unfinished projects, but keeping them for another few years could be dangerous.
