Italy is the country of the sun and of the good life but in the ranking of happiness it does not enter the Top 20 of the happiest countries in the world. Like every year the World Happiness Report 2021 he listed the countries that deserve top marks and those that are struggling to meet the demands of their citizens. A Report published by the Development Solutions Network and edited by six professors from some of the most distinguished universities around the world, from the University of British Columbia to the University of Oxford. This year, unlike the previous ones, the researchers also had to deal with the Covid-19 emergency which made things considerably more complicated. The Report is based on data on life satisfaction collected during 2020, as well as data collected by the Gallup World Poll and Lloyd's Register Foundation's World Risk Poll. Factors such as life expectancy, the unemployment rate, or confidence in one's community are taken into account.
“We urgently need to learn from Covid-19,” said Professor Jeffrey Sachs. “The pandemic reminds us of our global environmental threats, the urgent need to cooperate and the difficulties of achieving cooperation in every country and around the world. The report reminds us that we must aim for well-being rather than mere wealth, which will be really fleeting if we don't do a better job of addressing the challenges of sustainable development”.
The Northern countries are confirmed as a land of happiness for those who live there, Finland is confirmed in first place, Italy improves from 28th to 25th place but remains outside the Top 20.
