Citigroup: the CEO will be a woman for the first time

Quotas rose also in finance, and at the highest levels. In a traditionally male-dominated environment, an epochal novelty is about to arrive: for the first time a major US bank will be led by a woman. This is Jane Fraser, who in February 2021 he will replace the current CEO Michael Corbat. “I am extremely proud of what has been achieved in the last eight years. We have completed our transformation and we have emerged from the financial crisis stronger”, commented the outgoing number one, who will give way to a highly respected manager, at the end of a 37-year militancy in Citigroup.

Fraser is 53 years old and is already the incumbent president. Born in Scotland but naturalized American, studied at Cambridge and then at Harvard Business School. She joined Citigroup (which is part of the Big Six, the six largest banks in the United States) in 2004, she previously worked for ten years with McKinsey & Company. In truth, you, Fraser, have already occupied the position of CEO several times, even if not of the group: in April 2015, in particular, you were appointed head of Citigroup's Latin America vision. You previously served as CEO, also at Citigroup, of Private Bank, CitiMortgage and the US commercial division.

She was included in Fortune's "Most Powerful Women in Business" list in 2014 and 2015 and was named the "#1 Woman to Watch" for two consecutive years by American Banker. In a few months, she'll be keeping tabs on one of the biggest banks in the world, which in 2019 it had a turnover of 75 billion dollars and which employs more than 200.000 employees.
