Cisco accused of arming Beijing censorship

Monks against managers: the Chinese spiritual movement Falun Gong is suing Cisco Systems, the world leader in the networking sector. The accusation against the San José (California) company is of having helped the censorship of the Beijing government: in particular, the Americans are accused of having provided the Asian regime with a "golden shield" to track the activity of web users . Later the Chinese authorities allegedly used the "golden shield" to locate and arrest at least 5000 Falun Gong members.
According to the targeted movement, many of its followers were allegedly tortured after being jailed. Today the prosecution is asking Cisco System for compensation, the amount of which is not yet known, in addition to the immediate interruption of supplies to the government. The company rejects the accusations: “Everything is in order – a spokesman explained – we do not produce or sell anything that could help censorship and repression. On the contrary, our products meet global standards and facilitate the free exchange of information. We offer the same programs in China that we sell in the rest of the world. As always in compliance with the legislation of the United States”.
The Washington organization Human Rights Law Foundation has sided with Falun Gong and will support its defense before a district court in San José. The spiritual movement was born in 1992 and soon attracted the attention of the censors in Beijing, who began to consider it a formidable incubator of dissidence.
