Five Stars, the Giunta Raggi emblem of the shipwreck

Corruption, scandals, arrests, degradation, incompetence: the Giunta Raggi in Rome was supposed to be the flagship of the Five Stars but in just two years it has become the emblem of their complete failure both in the capital and on a national level – The times when the grillini took to the streets shouting "Honesty, honesty"

Five Stars, the Giunta Raggi emblem of the shipwreck

Corruption, bribes, arrests, scandals, degradation and incompetence: the Giunta Raggi of the capital of Italy was to be the flagship and the litmus test of honesty and good governance at Grillino and was to function as a springboard for the government of the country. But it went exactly the opposite and the grillina administration in the Campidoglio has been experiencing an endless Calvary for 33 months, not only judicial. Among the avalanches of waste in the neighborhoods of the city, potholes in the streets at every corner, falling trees, burning buses, subways made inaccessible by out-of-use escalators, public services from the third world, decapitated municipal companies on the verge of bankruptcy and above all a lot , a lot of corruption – other than “Honesty, honesty” –  Rome has never been misgoverned as under the Giunta of Virginia Raggi which, instead of a model for the government of the country, has become the emblem of the disaster and the sinking of the Five Stars not only in Rome but on a national level.

Not by chance while in Milan the economy flies and has grown by 18% in the last decade, the GDP of Rome is still eight by 3 percentage points compared to the one preceding the Great Crisis of 2007 and, under the Giunta Raggi, it seems to be experiencing an unstoppable decline after the failures of the previous Alemanno and Marino councils.

In the grip of panic and desperation for the repeated scandals, which had their point of no return with the arrest for corruption of a bigwig like the president of the City Council of Rome, Marcello De Vito, accused of pocketing bribes for the construction of the new Roma stadium, and the entry in the register of suspects of the right arm of Raggi, the councilor for Sport Daniele Frongia and the CEO of Acea, Stefano Donnarumma, the Five Stars - which in the capital had already had to suffer the shame of the Lanzalone scandal and Raffaele Marra's sentence to 3 and a half years for bribes - they don't know how to get rid of Mayor Raggi who multiplies exponentially the crisis of consensus that Di Maio's Movement accuses at a national level for the shipwreck of its government action. Even if, with the European elections upon us, Di Maio has rehabilitated it again by postponing the settlement of accounts until after the European ones, admitted and not granted that the processes are not done before the voters, who - according to all the polls - seem oriented to turn his back on the grillini in the next elections.

In Di Maio's entourage they know it and there are those who do not hide that "the credit is over, there is no longer any expectation on the Giunta Raggi, other than that of reaching the end without further shocks" because so far his experience at the guide to Rome was "a via crucis, a bleak experience" above all for the citizens of the capital, even those who had carefully avoided voting for it.

After all, the Giunta Raggi has always lived in conditions of absolute emergency and precariousness if one only thinks that in a thousand days of administration, between resignations and removals, 10 councilors out of 12 have changed: from the councilors for the Budget Marcello Minenna, Raffaele De Dominicis and Andrea Mazzillo, to those of the Environment Paola Muraro and Pinuccia Montanari, from the councilor for Urban Planning, Paolo Berdini, to that of Commerce, Adriano Meloni and to those of investee companies, Massimo Colomban and Alessandro Gennaro.

A council without peace and without a compass that was to mark a turning point in the life of the city and which instead will go down in history as one of the worst due to the incapacity of the mayor Raggi and his administrators and the unstoppable corruption that has already marked the present and the future of the Capital and which has a good chance of definitively sending the many illusions of change of the Five Stars to the archive.

With reference to the latest events “the gang of honest Five Stars – sarcastically commented in Corriere della Sera Aldo Grasso – has struck again. Almost three years of government and as many excellent arrests in the Municipality of Rome". Maybe he was right Leo Longanesi when he wrote – as Grasso himself recalled – that “one remains honest for the time necessary to be able to accuse one's adversaries and take their place”. That's right.

  1. Beautiful detailed and precise article. It is a pity that the 13 THIRTEEN billion euros of debt left by the previous, expert, capable, good and competent administrators who prevent investments are not mentioned; that many of the municipal managers, found by the Raggi junta, are under investigation; that the Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating AMA (waste) and ATAC (transport) for sabotage; A splendid example, yours, not of information, but of PROPAGANDA.
