CinemaNews: Kedi, the four-legged documentary

Kedi, the city of cats. Luckily, Cannes is not the only place to live. And, luckily, you can see good products, films or documentaries, not just in the traditional cinema. In fact, we have written that we are in the midst of the so-called "post-cinema" era, that is, of this viewing modality possible not only on the traditional big screen, but comfortably seated at home, perhaps through a new model of smart-TV connected in high-speed fiber network and, if we want, even in Ultra HD.

We offer you a small film, high quality, for fans of a certain genre: cat owners or sympathizers. It's about Kedi, the city of cats, a documentary proposed in Italian cinemas unfortunately only for a few days, signed by the Turkish director Ceyda Torun and shot entirely in Istanbul, considered the capital of small cats.

For those who can't find it in theaters, it is possible to see the trailer (which alone deserves attention) with this link on Youtube and then, if you wish, buy it for 9 euros.

It is a documentary, where there are no human actors (in this case co-protagonists) but only a few cats from the Turkish capital which is home to tens of thousands. These are simple exercises in style performed well, with a good hand at the camera, correct framing and correct lighting in the interiors and exteriors. The film takes place between the streets and the port of Istanbul where the cats are the masters, respected and pampered.

After so many cinematic exercises where instead violence has always been at the center of human affairs, this little film reconciles the pleasure of visual storytelling where there is not necessarily a beginning and an end, with the addition of some moral reading at will, but simply something that is part of everyday, ordinary life, where there are also our four-legged friends.

Speaking of acting: they say "dog acting" and you understand why. Cats are much better at it.
