The Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome presents the "Cinema al Maxxi" project for the sixth consecutive year until next April 14th. February 9th is the turn of the screening of the first episode of the ninth series of The Walking Dead

Cinema at the Maxxi: the museum meets the seventh art

The Maxxi in Rome brings cinema to the museum, promoting the marriage between the seventh and contemporary art which are now celebrating their sixth year together. The project “Cinema at Maxxi” edited by Mario Sesti, journalist, critic and director, and with the coordination of Alessandra Fontemaggi continues until next April 14th and presents the public with a unique programming where the films chosen for the screenings flank the ongoing exhibitions at the museum and still anticipates some exclusive previews of films, documentaries and TV series.

The section is scheduled for the second consecutive year Extra Doc, a festival dedicated to Italian documentaries; the section Extra Special it is full of events and meetings; finally, there is the section concerning the reviews that accompany the current exhibitions at the museum in particular Low Form, La Strada and Paolo Pellegrin. An anthology.

The most significant novelty is the collaboration with FOX for which from this year the Maxxi opens up to the contemporary also with regard to the seventh art, projecting itself into the universe of TV series: an innovative horror/science fiction series was presented in January, The Passage
by Liz Heldens, and produced in the United States in 2018, while the first episode of the ninth series of The Walking Dead, a series by Robert Kirkman and Frank Darabont, which now has its own aura and notoriety.

The proposals for the sixth edition can be divided into five sections. The Extra Doc Festival presents 10 Italian documentary films selected from world premieres and works that have been highlighted in the main festivals. The presentation of the best Italian documentary of the year and the best unpublished is foreseen, Extra Doc Cityfest and documentaries will be selected from a competent audience and distributed in the libraries of Rome. The jury will be composed of the president of the Maxxi Foundation Giovanna Melandri, Mimmo Calopresti, Valerio Cappelli, Cristina Donadio, Nicola Giuliano and Margaret Mazzantini.

The cinema that supports the museum's proposals in the section Low Form, La Strada, Cinema and Photography, and which deals with the technological and surreal imagery of contemporary art (Low Form. Imaginaries and visions in the age of artificial intelligence), the street as a place of sharing and innovation (The street. Where the world is created), cinema and photography (Paul Pellegrin. An anthology).

The special section is dedicated to celebrations, tributes, readings, conversations with authors of the contemporary scene or artists linked to the adventures of cinema and vision, open to dialogue with the curators of Maxxi and with the public. The David di Donatello Legacy evening promoted by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma and by Maxxi, together with the Academy of Italian Cinema – David di Donatello Awards, will remember authors, films, performers that the prestigious history of the Prize has helped to discover and celebrate.

Let no one forget the little ones: the section Alice Family continues on the path of discovery of modern classics dedicated to children and represents an opportunity to discover the gems of international cinema that more than others have been able to tell the dialogue between adults and children.

The cost of the ticket to participate in the events is 5 euros, but some of the appointments are free and accessible subject to availability, such as the Fox TV Series evening on February 9, the David di Donatello Legacy event on February 24 and for the Extra Speciale section and its evening on March 24.
