Cinema: 60 years of the David di Donatello with a tribute to Rondi

Giorgio Treves' documentary offers a journey through the history of great Italian cinema by telling the story of the sixty years of life of the famous David di Donatello Award. A long history of successes, of famous award-winning actors and directors, of quality works that have marked the history and identity of Italian cinema.

A glamorous showcase of the best of our cinema, a vehicle for promotion, a stimulus for renewal, but also a mirror of the history of our country which the Award has documented with the awarded and nominated films.

A journey into Italian cinematographic creativity that comes to life through films, repertoires, testimonies and the memories of many of its protagonists: Manuela Pineschi, Enrico Lucherini, Caterina D'Amico, Gina Lollobrigida, Giuseppe Tornatore, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Nanni Moretti, Matteo Garrone, Giuliano Montaldo, Stefano Rulli, Krzysztof Zanussi, Margarethe von Trotta, Ennio Morricone, and many others.

Naturally, the film also becomes a tribute to Gian Luigi Rondi, who was one of the founders and main animators of the David di Donatello.

With Gian Luig Rondi we realized that the David awards represented a mirror of the history of our country, of how it has changed in itself and in relation to cinema. After the season of the great masters, of comedy, there was a moment of identity crisis in genre cinema. Today there is a sort of awakening, an awareness of an identity which, despite a thousand productive and economic difficulties, carries forward important initiatives. And the Davids have always encouraged the new generation with awards for short films and first works.
