China, Merkel will ask Beijing to buy Italy and Spain bonds

A greater commitment to tackle the eurozone crisis buying Italian and Spanish government bonds. The addressee of the request is not the ECB, but the China. The sender, surprisingly, is the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who in his next two-day visit to Beijing will try to convince the Dragon to bet on the bonds of Rome and Madrid, "whose interest rates are high and attractive".

This was revealed by the online edition of the German weekly "Der Spiegel", which quotes some officials of the German Executive, who however underline how China "already plays a very important role through the International Monetary Fund".

The chancellor will leave for China tomorrow, after today's meeting in Berlin with the Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti. In addition to Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, Merkel will also see President Hu Jintao and important representatives of the Asian giant's economy and finance. At the center of the talks will also be Beijing's monetary policy, which according to Berlin should be more flexible.
