Crolla in China the manufacturing sector, which in August comes to touch the lowest since March 2009. This is confirmed by the PMI index calculated by the HSBC bank, which dropped to 47,6 points, from 49,3 in July. This is the tenth consecutive descent. The indicator thus increases its distance from the fateful "quota 50", the threshold that marks the boundary between expansion and contraction.
This morning's data adds up to the official PMI index announced on Saturday, which had fallen below 2011 points for the first time since November 50: the indicator slipped to 49,2 from 50,1 in July, on expectations for a reading at 50,0.
