Cibus: the great showcase of Italian agri-food is starting again

It will be Cibus, the first major international fair dedicated to Italian agri-food to reopen its doors, in the presence from 31 August to 3 September.

At the Parma event they are almost expected 2000 companies that will present their products, including 500 new products, to approximately 40.000 international operators who will participate, also thanks to the incoming plan and the collaboration with Agenzia ICE (the new products will be announced a week before the start of Cibus on the event website and via the Cibus app).

The Cibus Destination program will allow the top foreign buyers to discover and deepen the distinctive Italian skills both at the fair, with thematic itineraries, both on the territory, with visits to the production sites of food companies. Cibus therefore represents the first true testing ground for the agri-food sector which can resume expansion on foreign markets in the meeting with international buyers and define its market strategies thanks to the presence at the fair of agri-food companies, the world of distribution, government institutions and the political world. For the record thelast edition of Cibus recorded 82.000 visitors from over 90 countries.

Growth strategies and the future of the sector will be discussed in the various scheduled conferences. In the inaugural conference, Industry and Distribution will discuss the challenges and opportunities offered by the multi-channel system, the first opening conference where online is increasingly representing a dimension of in-depth analysis and information disintermediation. A strategic channel on a commercial and communicative level that is increasingly integrated with the physical channel of large-scale consumption, which is growing thanks to the reborn proximity and precisely online.

A scenario is therefore emerging in which one Italian out of two habitually buys online and a future in which the dichotomy between physical and digital will increasingly diminish. In addition to the inaugural conference, the following highlights include: the Confagricoltura conference on the future of Italian agriculture; the one on the prospects of the Horeca sales channel, edited by Dolcitalia; “Farm to fork: food waste and sustainability in Europe” by Plug and Play Italy; “Recovery Fund and Pnrr – Facilitative issues and instruments envisaged to support the investments of young entrepreneurs”; “World Food Forum: the challenges of the climatic, digital and social transitions the financial resources foreseen: the impact for companies; “Innovate or decrease? which road to take for food sustainability?”.

Of particular relevance is the conference on GIs which will present, in addition to the Italian offer, also that of European and international PDOs: “Agro-food Made in Italy and Geographical Indications. Strategies to boost growth”. A novelty is represented by "Ho.Re.Ca.The HUB", an area dedicated to the Ho.Re.Ca sales channel (restaurants, bars and similar), organized in collaboration with Dolcitalia, a service company for the world of food, confectionery, impulse and beverage distribution.

In addition to the exhibition area, the Hub will offer a reflection on the challenges facing the Ho.Re.Ca channel. Dolcitalia's sales data show a leap of +11,6% in June 2021, with sales to bars rising by 62,6% and those to restaurants by 43,5%. And then "Food Innovation Start Up @ Cibus 2021" to present the most innovative start-ups in the sector. The craft brewery area, curated by Unionbirrai which will bring the Beer of the Year award to Parma; “Cibus Off”, the Fuori Salone held in the center of Parma and active from 29 August to 5 September.

Among the novelties of the outside show, Cibus Off will be a partner of "Guest Star Night": the special musical initiative promoted to enhance local artists and offer free concerts in unexpected spaces. Cibus returns this year also in the "Food saving" version thanks to the partnership with Banco Alimentare.

For the fourth edition, exhibitors will have the opportunity to donate surpluses at the end of the event, so that they do not go to waste and can reach people and families in difficulty in the region, thanks to the activity of the charitable structures affiliated with the Emilia-Romagna Food Bank Foundation.

During the four days of the event, speakers will include: Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Stefano Patuanelli, Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies; Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of Economic Development; Carlo Maria Ferro, President of the ICE Agency; Stefano Bonaccini, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region. Representatives of the industry will take the floor in the two conferences on the morning of 31 August, including Ivano Vacondio, President of Federalimentare, and Marco Travaglia, Vice President of Centromarca and CEO for the Nestlè Group. In the afternoon, the Assembly of Federalimentare will be held, with the participation of the main captains of the Italian food industry.

The main spokespersons of Modern Distribution will be present at Cibus: Alberto Frausin, President of Federdistribuzione; Francesco Pugliese, CEO of Conad; Marco Pedroni President of Coop Italy; Giorgio Santambrogio, CEO of the Végé Group; Francesco Avanzini, General Manager of Conad and others.
