Chrysler recalls 2,7 million Jeeps, agreement with US authorities

Chrysler and the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have resolved differences regarding the safety of 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-07 Jeep Liberty.

Under the agreement reached – explains the Detroit company in a note – “Chrysler will conduct a voluntary campaign which will include, in addition to a visual inspection of the vehicles in question, an adjustment of the rear structure of the vehicle where necessary to allow for better management impact forces in low speed impacts”.

Thorough checks by Chrysler Group confirm that the vehicles in question are not defective, but are among the safest in their category. Nonetheless, “Chrysler Group recognizes that the matter has generated concern among its customers – continues the note – and intends to take measures, in collaboration with Nhtsa, to further increase the safety of its vehicles. Chrysler Group considers safety a fundamental need and does not compromise in any way on the safety of its customers and their families”.
