Christine Lagarde (IMF): The euro will not disappear in 2012

From Pretoria, South Africa, on the occasion of a press conference, the number one of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, spoke about the future of the euro: “Will 2012 be the end of the euro? My answer is that I don't believe it. The single currency will not disappear or dissolve in 2012".

The IMF director also reiterated that the world growth figures will be “revised downwards. We will have the figures around January 25,” Lagarde said. Already in Niamey, Niger, last December 21, the director of the IMF had hinted that the forecasts for world growth (4%) will be revised downwards, in particular due to the euro crisis.
