The Modern Art on Paper Auction (Modern works on paper) held in Paris at Christie's ended with a total of 6,948,950 Eur.
Among the highlights of this sale was a charcoal drawing by Matisse from the series Thèmes et variants: Femme étendue, executed on October 17, 1941.
Of exceptional quality are the two works on paper by Fernand Léger, Les Trois masks: Afrique, Océanie et Amérique (1922) and Le Pecheur (1921). Another brilliant designer was Edgar Degas who reveals the modernity of his line in his charcoal work entitled Femme s'essuyant. Made between 1895 and 1900, this work differs from his well-known dancers and marks a turning point in artistic reflection, the painter takes off from the scene, the subject becomes more intimate and the gesture freer and more powerful.
