Christie's and designer Lela Rose together for wedding fashion

New York-based bridal designer Lela Rose with jewelry from Christie's creates modern wedding styles mixing personality and glamour. A new fashion where the wedding tiara also becomes a fashion accessory to transform a bag or a special evening.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. While this nursery rhyme has dictated wedding fashion for centuries, today's bride is finding new ways to interpret the saying or get rid of it altogether. Rose designs her coveted bridal line with personal touches in mind, like swapping an embellishment for a family heirloom or embroidering the hem of each gown with the bride's wedding date in blue thread.

Believing that wedding day jewelry should look equally suited to the bride's style and story, Christie's has collaborated with Rose on her first video At Your Service, which spotlights a new project for private sales.

“One of the specialized services Christie's offers that most customers don't know about is the custom sourcing of gems, diamonds and specialty jewelry at customers' request,” explains Angelina Chen, senior jewelry specialist at Christie's New York.

Inside Lela Rose's brand new Bridal Atelier, the designer shared styling tips for the modern bride with Neda Whitney, Head of Marketing for Christie's Americas, as she paired her Spring 2022 bridal collection with exquisite jewelry purchased from Christie's. The resulting looks showcase three versatile pieces that can be tailored for wear long after the big day.

“I loved working with Christie's to style heirloom-like jewelry in unexpected, modern ways”says Rose.

“Tiaras are having a moment right now”Chen says. While these alluring adornments offer that quintessential bridal “princess moment,” many are convertible, allowing brides to maximize their wardrobe long after their wedding day.

"Most people don't know that many ancient tiaras were made for multifunctional use." explains Chen. “Many can be worn as necklaces with special accessories. The elements can also be taken off and used as pins. “

Women hundreds of years ago understood the value of a versatile piece, Chen says, one of the many reasons heritage jewelry, like the Georgian brooch pictured above, is perfect for wedding ensembles. Pins can also turn a purse or sash into a show accessory.

“When a customer requests a bespoke piece, we source the best available,” says Chen. “For the modern bride who is looking for something truly unique on her special day — and who she hopes to maybe use the piece again — this jewelry fits her bill perfectly.”
