Christie's: modern and contemporary art at auction in Paris

Given the results obtained in recent months by the main international auction houses in the squares of London and New York, this Parisian appointment of Contemporary art  seems to have the characteristics to achieve another award record, also because both the choice of works and artists match very well with the taste and interest of the French public.

As could be imagined, given the interest it is registering Gerhard Richter, also in this auction the most esteemed work belongs to this artist born in Dresden in 1932. The work proposed in the catalog entitled "Abstraktes Bild (646-4)” arises as top lot with an estimate of 1.500.000-2.500.000 €, difficult to make precise predictions on how much will be awarded but certainly the work turns out to be very interesting.

"Spider" is the second top lot, a steel spider di Louise Borgeois (1911-2010) of dimensions 47x155x102 cm. made in 1995, which presents the estimate of 1.000.000-1.500.000 €.

Later works are also interesting, such as "Painting 130×162,20 June 1957 di Pierre Soulages (1919)”, a painting, oil on canvas from 1957, iconographically attributable to the master, where a slightly blue background can be glimpsed under the grate of black brushstrokes which gives the painting a different chromatic balance. The work is estimated at €800.000-1.200.000; and what about this flock… “Mountons de laine (Troupeau de cinq mountons et nef ottomans” by Francois-Xavier Lalanne (1927-2008), estimated 700-900 thousand€, of which we remember the exhibition at the Musée d'art moderni de la Ville de Paris, XVIIème Salon de la Jeune Peinture, January 1966 and at the Galerie Alexandre Iolas, October 1966-January 1967.

Following: the work "Hauts lieux du mariage (portraits of Werner and Nora Scheink”) by Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985), oil on canvas from 1958, estimate €600-800 thousand; Sans Titre (le Bateau Ivre) by Wols (1913-1951), estimate €500-700 thousand; another flock by Francois-Xavier Lalanne “Troupeau de trois mountons de pierre, una brebis, un beliér et trois transhumants” estimate €450-650 thousand; “Chizosei Shomenko” by Kazuo Shiraga (1924-2008), estimate €400-600 thousand.

Red colors for the “study for homage to the square” by Josef Albers (1988-1976) estimate 400-600 thousand€; charcoals for “Drawing for Great American Nude #85” by Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004), estimate €400-600 thousand; a vase of two daisies on a blue vase”Fleurs au pot bleau” by Nicolas De Stael (1914-1955) estimate €400-600 thousand; “Liqueurs, music, chemiserie (avec sept voitures)” by Jean Debuffet, estimate €400-600 thousand; "Hope" by Robert Indiana (1928), estimate €350-450 thousand; “Sans titre” by Joan Mitchell (1925-1992), estimate €300-500m; “Enchanted” by Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923-2002), estimate €300-500 thousand.
