Christie's and China Guardian Auction together for a new collection

From September Christie's and China Guardian Auctions will unveil a thematic collaboration in Shanghai in September. The two auction houses will work together as part of a broader innovative collaboration, including a series of sales and exhibitions under the organizational idea – 2020+. The goal of the partnership is to broaden the market in the region by attracting more customers and art enthusiasts with an exciting series of shared events.

Guillaume Cerutti, Chief Executive Officer, commented Christie, “I am very proud of this first collaboration between Guardian and Christie's. We have great respect for Guardian founder and chairman Chen Dongsheng and the Guardian teams. Our two houses are on the same wavelength to leverage our collective expertise and reach, and to offer collectors the very best in world art. As the first international auction house to hold an independent auction license in China, this partnership underscores Christie's continued commitment and long-term investment in this key market.”

Hu Yanyan, director and chairman of China Guardian Auctions, added: “As Shanghai continues its trajectory by maturing into an international art hub of great significance, we believe the time is right for such a culturally historic partnership. For China Guardian, innovation is in our genes and we are always proud to promote the development of the diversifying art market. The September collaboration is also a good opportunity for us to learn from Christie's, a brand with a history of over 250 years. We look forward to convening a larger audience this September, with our innovative sales and activity program that further delves into the cross-cultural dialogue that has developed over the years.”

A series of auction-related programs will be organized together by specialists from two auction houses with their different areas of expertise, as part of a landmark and symbolic cultural partnership. The theme of 2020+ will seek to explore the artist's challenges, disruption, creativity and resilience to provide thought-provoking cultural dialogues between ancient and modern, East and West, at this particular time.

A shared full schedule of events will be announced later in the summer.
