Christie's to auction an 11 million euro Brancusi

On 7 November an exceptional auction, 16 works in total (star Lots), with an estimated collection of over EUR 27 million, at auction Impressionist & Modern Art a New York da Christie's, where the masterpiece of Constantine Brancusi (1867-1957) valued between 8 and 11 million EUR.

But that's not all, the works of Lyonel Feininger, Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore, Emil Nolde, Marc Chagall, etc. also come from a private collection... Many of these works in the auction have not been seen in public in more than 25 years.

Superb work"One Muse”in plaster (45,7 cm) among the first sculptures by the artist and never exhibited for the American public. Executed in 1912, it represents a stylized head of a woman, exhibited at the Armony salon in 1913 in New York, it was purchased for his private collection by the co-founder of the salon, Walt Kuln.

The ghostly face of the Muse of brancusi was inspired by Baroness Renée-Irana Frachon, who also served as a model for the artist's previous works, such as: The Muse Endormie of 1909-1910. Over the next three years, brancusi he continued to refine the ovoid figure, reaching new levels of sculptural complexity and stylization, slowly moving towards a more abstract concept with a more egg-like shape. “One Muse” she poses vertically with a very elegant curvature of the neck which makes her truly sublime.

Great attention and waiting also for Tête sur tige (head on a rod), one of the most haunting and deeply expressive works of his mature career Giacometti. With head thrown back and mouth open screaming. This disturbing premise characterized Giacometti for a certain period, then in the following years after the Liberation, he returned to Paris and began to produce the stylized human figures that we all know and recognize in his signature. Tête sur tige it was first conceived in 1947 in an original plaster version exhibited in a personal exhibition at the Pierre Matisse gallery in New York. The bronze version for sale is among the casts of the early works, made in 1952.

In 1928, Feininger he painted Der Raddampfer III (side Wheeler III), artist who has been recognized as one of the most important artists of modern Germany. Having learned the principles of Futurism and Cubism early in his career, he applied his sophistication and skill with works on the theme of the immense power of nature.

Finally, also highly anticipated Nature Morte of 1910-14 of Chagall.
