China Telecom, the president arrested

The president of China Telecom Corp. Chang Xiaobing was arrested by the Chinese anti-corruption agency on suspicion of "violating various disciplinary rules". The news was published yesterday on the website of the Central Commission for Disciplinary Inspection, the anti-corruption agency of the Communist Party. Chang, 58, was the chairman of China Unicom Ltd., China's second-largest mobile operator, and took over as head of China Telecom in August.

The commission did not provide any other details; the company has informed that operations remain normal. Chang's arrest is part of a vast anti-corruption campaign launched by President Xi Jinping. Several prominent figures, Party officials who held positions in state-owned companies, were involved in the investigations.
