Chiara Soldati CEO of La Scolca Cavaliere del Lavoro: "An honor to represent the world of Italian wine"

Chiara Soldati, CEO of La Scolca, a Piedmontese company that has linked its name to the excellent production of Gavi, received the award directly from the hands of President Mattarella during a ceremony that took place at the Quirinale conferred together with 25 newly appointed entrepreneurs Cavalieri del Lavoro.

“It was truly an unforgettable experience – he declares to Chiara Soldati – receiving the award from the hands of President Mattarella, listening to his words, sharing the scene with fellow entrepreneurs who work every day to enhance Made in Italy, I must admit that I was excited. An honor to represent an important sector such as wine, as well as a further incentive to do better and better. Even more in this moment of extreme difficulty, of important challenges, this recognition makes me even more responsible in building and investing in the future, aware that I play even more than before a role in some way of ambassador of the territory where I work. I want to share all this with my team and especially with my family.

The La Scolca® estate has been purchased in 1919 by Giorgio Soldati's great-grandfather, Chiara's father, who was a great interpreter of the Gavi DOCG. Chiara Soldati is the fourth generation with an eye already to the third millennium. never as in the case of the Soldati family do names have a symbolic meaning. The name of the plot derives from the ancient toponym “Sfurca” or “Looking into the distance” and the farmhouse that stood there had in the past been a lookout post. The surname fully reflects the proud and tenacious character of the owners and their wines.

The great intuition: to plant Cortese vineyards in 1900 in an area exclusively suited to red berried cultivation

At the time of purchase, the property was partly covered by woods and partly cultivated with wheat. It was a well-studied intuition to plant Cortese vineyards in 1900 in an area exclusively suited to the cultivation of red grape vineyards. Production soon became a primary technical and entrepreneurial activity. La Scolca is therefore the oldest company in the area, due to the continuity of management by the same family, but at the same time it is the most modern.

Giorgio has proved to be a very valid and whimsical innovative interpreter: his is the creation of successful wines and sparkling wines without ever betraying loyalty to the land of Gavi and to the Cortese vine. But the most difficult task he took on, together with his family, was to maintain the leadership achieved by the company over the years, further strengthening the image and fame of Scolca with an all-Piedmontese will and the philosophy of the highest possible quality.

Gavi wine, made from Cortese grapes, was invented right here, at La Scolca®: for more than 100 years it has become a model of style. The company manages an area of about 50 hectares of vineyards. In total there are about 200 km of rows, which during each agricultural campaign are covered eight to ten times, on foot or by tractor, with planting layouts of approximately 0,90 by 2,40 metres, the density is about 4500 vines per hectare. The vineyards are located in the best positions of Rovereto and Gavi.

It was at the behest of Giorgio Soldati, as first president of Consorzio del Gavi, who La Scolca obtained the DOC in 74 and the DOCG in 98.
