Champions League, Lazio's adventure ends in Munich: Bayern are too strong, winning 3-0 and moving on to the quarter-finals

More than a business. The European adventure of Lazio it ended on a decidedly dark night, in which the Bavaria he got through to the quarterfinals without too much effort. The gap between the two teams is too evident and not only from a technical point of view: at the Allianz Arena we could see the difference between those who are used to playing inside or outside matches in the Champions League and those who, instead, have entered the group of the first eight only once, moreover 24 years ago. Eriksson's record remains where he belongs and this, obviously, is not good news for Sarri, who is now called upon to keep the bar straight ahead of the season finale. At stake are still the fight for fourth-fifth place (even if now we will have one less team in the Ranking count) and a semi-final of the Italian Cup to be played as best we can, without the European difficulties involved.

Bayern Munich – Lazio 3-0: Kane and Müller sign the comeback, but what a waste from Immobile!

The final 3-0, perhaps, is a little too harsh for Lazio, even if overall Bayern's qualification is deserved. If in the first leg, in fact, the Biancocelesti remained on top for the entire match, yesterday the Biancocelesti's resistance lasted only 38 minutes: many (or few, depending on your point of view) were enough for Kane to equalize the 1st -0 for Roma and when Müller, a breath away from the break, found the second goal by deflecting a shot from De Ligt into the goal (45+2'), it was understood that the Bavarian evening would be stingy with satisfaction. In all this there is a rather big "but", namely the sliding door of the match: Immobile, the man around whom Sarri's hopes centered, literally devoured the goal of the possible 0-1 one minute before Kane's aforementioned header, throwing away a more unique than rare opportunity to send his team to a double lead on aggregate. There is no counter-proof that Bayern wouldn't have won anyway, but they certainly would have found themselves faced with a rather high mountain to climb, also because Lazio would have had an injection of enthusiasm with a thousand facets. Instead, from a possible 1-0 in favour, they found themselves down by a goal at half-time: a double hook too strong to get up, and in fact the second half slipped away without a jolt, with Neuer essentially inactive and Kane's second goal ( 66') as the only real emotion. The Biancoceleste Champions League thus ends in the presence of Bayern Munich: nothing to be ashamed of, of course, but the bitter taste remains because the Germans, like never before this year, are anything but unbeatable.

Sarri: "Our path in the Champions League remains positive, now let's try to get back into the championship"

“After the second goal, another game began – sighed Sarri -. The first half was of a good level, but Bayern was the real one: in the Champions League these teams bring out everything, however we managed to stay well in the match. The 1-0 would not have taken away our hopes, the 2-0 made us return to the locker room with disappointment and with little belief that we could put it right again. It could have been another story, but the technical gap is there. What if I think about a change of formation for the season finale? No way. Our path in the Champions League is necessarily positive, we have more victories than defeats, after which going back is bordering on impossible, given that we are not at our best in the league. Let's see what we can do, let's try to climb back up."

Tuchel: “Now we can celebrate! Winning the Champions League? Yes, I dream about it too”

“We had high expectations, we wanted to qualify for the quarter-finals – underlined Tuchel -. The first objective was to score goals, we never lost our heads or concentration. Minute after minute we found spaces better and better and scored at the right time, I think the victory was deserved. Now we celebrate, we enjoy the evening, then starting tomorrow we will analyze the match and start preparing for the next Bundesliga match: I always have high expectations of myself. Winning the Champions League? The teams that reach the quarter-finals are all dreams: the clubs, the fans and me too...".
