Champions League, another blow: Barcelona scored 4 goals against Roma

The result of the Camp Nou is merciless but Roma's defeat in the Champions League resembles that of Juve against Real – With a few more regrets: two own goals and two penalties not granted by the referee

Champions League, another blow: Barcelona scored 4 goals against Roma

Another round, another beating. The Spain-Italy clash between Barcelona and Rome ends just like the first on Tuesday, that is, with a three-goal difference for the others. In Turin it ended 0-3, at the Camp Nou instead the final result is 4-1 but little changes: the concept is substantially the same, with the Spaniards (or perhaps it would be better to say Catalans) to enjoy and ours to lick their wounds.

In the case of Roma then they are pretty big "cuts", all the more because they are procured by themselves, at least in large part. Look at the scoresheet and read 4-1, but the match said that the distances, even with the due proportions, weren't that great. The end result is a mix of many things: individual errors (even two own goals!), by the referee (two penalties not given) and Barça's usual skill in accelerating suddenly, like a feline that spots its prey and does it at the right time.

“We had a great match in terms of desire, personality and hunger – commented Di Francesco – We were down 3-0 and I didn't even notice it, unfortunately we were naive but we were also unlucky. This evening they were helped by us and by the referee, in this regard I want to say that they are already stronger than they are, they don't need favors…”.

Yes, because that penalty not given in the 9th minute (at 0-0) for a foul by Semedo on Dzeko could have changed many things and even the one between Umtiti and Pellegrini (45', 1-0) cries out for revenge, but Roma must first of all to recriminate for one's own mistakes, which proved fatal like those of the referee Makkelie. De Rossi's own goal (38') opened the way for the blaugrana, Manolas's even leveled it (55'), before Piqué found the 3-0 with an unguarded goal (59').

A lethal trio, made even more painful by Gonalons' self-assist to Suarez for the final 4-1 (87'): shortly before Dzeko had rekindled a little hope by finalizing an assist from Perotti (80') but the result final ended up shutting it down. Overturning it would be the greatest feat in the history of Rome, without ifs and buts, which is why it is better not to get too many illusions and to think, rather, about the reason for this gap between Spanish and Italian football.

From June to today we have 5 matches and all merciless: Real Madrid-Juventus 4-1, Spain-Italy 3-0, Barcelona-Juve 3-0, Juve-Real Madrid 0-3, Barcelona-Roma 4-1. Clear, very clear defeats, that's why it's good to find justifications (yesterday's penalties, for example, could really change things) but without exaggerating. Otherwise next year we'll find ourselves here again commenting on similar things, just as if nothing had happened.
