Champions, Allegri makes a mistake and Juve disappoints: only 0-0 with Sevilla

A crossbar from Higuain and two missed chances from Khedira face to face with the opposing goalkeeper are Juve's meager booty on their home debut in the Champions League against Sampaoli's fierce Sevilla – But part of the responsibility for the false start lies with Allegri who deployed a containment formation with Evra and Asamoah giving up being more daring and betting on the darting Pjaca or Cuadrado.

Champions, Allegri makes a mistake and Juve disappoints: only 0-0 with Sevilla

Juve is printed on the wall. Indeed, it would be more correct to say on the crossbar given the occasional waste by Higuain but the image of the bricks gives a better idea of Sevilla seen in Turin, more interested in defending a draw than in winning the game. And so the Bianconeri begin the Champions League with half a misstep: the 0-0 home draw cannot in fact be considered a good result, especially with the premises of this season. The regret remains for that pinch of bad luck which, once again, has hoisted itself on the European path of the Lady and which already forces her to chase in the standings: in fact, Lyon thanks them and takes pole position (3-0 over Dinamo Zagreb).

“We weren't able to take advantage of the opportunities even though we didn't concede anything to Sevilla – commented Allegri. – We could have won but we mustn't be disappointed, there are still many points up for grabs and it's never easy to play in Europe". True, yet there is the feeling that Juve in the Champions League version is still far from that of the championship.

The coach also did his bit: leaving Pjanic and Alex Sandro on the bench to rely on Asamoah and Evra is a sign of weakness. It's not a matter of technical caliber but tactics: the Ghanaian and the French are players of containment and the Cup, as we know, needs more courage. In any case Juve dominated the match and deserved to win.

In fact, Sevilla, in contrast with Spanish habits, preferred to hole up in their own space, "forcing" Buffon into an evening as a non-paying spectator. The chances to take the lead immediately fell on Khedira's feet but the German, glacial in the league, got caught up in the tennis player's classic "little arm".

The muscular midfield forced Dybala to retreat to build up the game and Higuain ended up being too alone, even if he had the right ball. When his header went over the crossbar, it became clear that the evening wasn't the right one, a sensation confirmed in the final when Alex Sandro, who took over from Evra, saw another punch repelled by a leap from Rico (89 ').

The 0-0 is closer to Juve, there's no rain on this. However, the European squadrons (above all Barcelona and Bayern) attack the Champions League in a very different way and hardly end up crying over spilled milk. Juve must take an example and raise their level, otherwise the Big Dream risks remaining so for the umpteenth time.
