Caesar must die

THE CINEMA CORNER – Shakespeare is recited in Rebibbia – The Taviani brothers stage a strong and very human film – Awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.

Caesar must die

Powerful, the acting of the inmates inside the theater laboratory. The direction that follows them from behind bars is impotent. Shakespeare is recited in Rebibbia. Fabio Cavalli organizes the activity of the laboratory. Prisoners don't breathe an hour of air, no. They participate in a tragedy. They breathe it deeply and transmit it without technique, using a natural, very human talent. Shakespeare speaks with dialectal inflection. The Taviani brothers revolve around the staging and rehearsals of “Giulio Cesare”.

Berlin rewards the maneuver, even at the cinema: the Golden Bear of the Berlinale justifies the documentary operation and again the distribution (sponsored by Nanni Moretti) in 40 copies. Salvatore Striano, where had we already seen him? Free with the pardon since 2006, we had already seen him on the big screen in "Gomorra" by Matteo Garrone. To play the character of Brutus, he set foot again in Rebibbia for a few weeks.

"Caesar must die" by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani. With Cosimo Rega and Salvatore Striano. It lasts 1h16'. Distributed by Sacher.
