Elections Molise: center-right towards a clear victory, yet another flop for the Pd-M5S alliance

The candidate of the center-right Francesco Roberti is over 60%, the challenger of the center-left Gravina stops at 35%. – Brothers of Italy almost 20%, M5S and Lega debacle at 5%

Elections Molise: center-right towards a clear victory, yet another flop for the Pd-M5S alliance

Il center-right also wins in Molise. Although only 101 sections out of 393 have still been scrutinized, the advantage gained by the former mayor of Termoli Francesco Roberti it now seems insurmountable. For the Pd-M5S alliance therefore, yet another electoral flop is looming in this difficult electoral season for the entire centre-left. Roberti therefore takes over from Donato Toma at the helm of the Molise Region.

Molise: Roberti new president, yet another defeat for the centre-left

The candidate of the center-right, Action and Italia Viva Francesco Roberti he is on his way to victory with over 63% of the votes. Robert Gravina, mayor of Campobasso and centre-left candidate supported by the Giallorossi alliance is still at 35,2%. The civic follows Emilio Izzo (I don't vote for the usual suspects) with 1,5%.

Once again the polls deliver the victory to the centre-right, with the centre-left – allied with the M5S – again forced to lick its wounds, despite the fact that in Molise there was that alliance and that "common ground" between the oppositions (or at least with a part of them), repeatedly recalled in recent weeks by the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein.

List data

The first data relating to the electoral lists that supported the three candidates also arrive. Brothers of Italy is at 19,9%, while the Pd reaches 12%. Forza Italia is confirmed as the second center-right party with 12,5%. Much more arrears the Movement 5 Stars, at 5,48% and the Alloy, at 5%.

Turnout below 50%

The low turnout seen elsewhere in the recent electoral rounds is also confirmed: when polling stations close, the final turnout for the Regional elections in Molise is below 50%: in the 136 Municipalities involved, only the 47,94 percent of those entitled, a decrease of almost five percentage points compared to 2018.

“The result was expected, we toured the area, we had the feeling that the people of Molise understood our electoral program, our way of doing politics with moderation. We are satisfied, now we are starting to worry about the good of Molise and the people of Molise ”he told Adnkronos Francesco Roberti. “I dedicate this victory to Silvio Berlusconi – he continues – if he had been alive he would have come here to Molise to close the electoral campaign. His hand is certainly there, from above he was close to me like when I was first candidate for mayor and then for president of the province. In football jargon he would have commented `Triplete´. I thank everyone, it was a victory for `us', time to rejoice and we start working, always with humility, to give hope and certainty to this Molise".

“We dedicate the victory in Molise and the extraordinary result of Forza Italia to President Berlusconi. A success that confirms trust in the government. Wishing Francesco a good job, I thank Donato Toma for the work done. Forza Italia, a force for good governance,” the national coordinator of Forza Italia and Minister for Foreign Affairs wrote on Twitter. Antonio Tajani.

“The outcome of the vote is clear: best wishes to Francesco Roberti for a good job in the exclusive interest of the entire Molise community. It's been intense days and in many ways exciting, it wasn't enough. We regret that we have failed to convince the majority of the electorate with our renewal proposal. The regret of not being able to guide Molise directly towards the development horizon that we have outlined in recent months. However, we are also aware that we have laid the foundations for an enlarged and alternative project to the right. And, above all, we have the duty and the conviction to work for a concrete and constructive, but certainly clear-cut opposition", commented the candidate of the centre-left coalition Robert Gravina.

"Roberti has won and we wish him a good job as the new President of the Molise Region, even in a session marked by a very low turnout, this time even and abundantly below 50%", said the head of Local Authorities of the Democratic Party, Davide Baruffi. "We have nothing to reproach our candidate, Roberto Gravina, whom we indeed thank for the good race: we supported him with conviction because, in a rather black and white picture, he represented the only element of innovation", he added.
