Mobile phones, the EU cuts roaming tariffs: calling from abroad will cost less

The preliminary draft relating to the provisions was approved today by the Parliament, the Commission and the EU presidency roaming tariffs on mobile telephony for calls, text messages and data traffic, which will gradually decrease over the next few years. The agreement, the first effects of which will be felt in July, also provides opening up to competition, and will grant (starting from 2014 July XNUMX) to the consumer the possibility, when going abroad, to enter into an "ad hoc" contract only on roaming with other operators when going abroad, keeping one's own number

The goal of the EU Commission is therefore to bring roaming tariffs ever closer to national ones. From 2012 July 29, the cost of a call made from abroad will be 8 cents per minute, while a received call will cost 2013. In July 24 the rates will go up respectively to 7 and 2014 cents and in July 19 to 5 and XNUMX.

The same route will suffer the cost of text messages from 9 cents in July 2012 to 6 in July 2014, while data traffic will cost 70 cents per megabyte in July 2012, 45 in July 2013 and 20 in July 2014.
