CDP: profit of 2,5 billion and investments of 63 billion

Last year postal funding grew by 2,1%, to 258 billion, through savings bonds and postal savings books

The Cassa Depositi e Prestiti group closed the 2018 financial statements with a consolidated net profit of 4,3 billion, a slight decrease compared to 2017. However, the parent company Cassa spa achieved profits for 2,5 billion, up 15,3% on an annual basis, above all thanks to the increase in the intermediation margin, which stood at 3,8 billion euro (+32,6%). The CDP group mobilized resources for 36 billion last year (+6,9%).

The balance sheet of the Cassa records a total assets of 370 billion (+0,7%), consisting mainly of cash and cash equivalents of 167,9 billion (-3,7%), loans to customers and banks of 101,3 billion (-1,3%), debt securities for 60 billion (+24,9%) and equity investments for 33,1 billion (+2,5%).

As for the passive, the total collection it amounted to 342,6 billion (+0,6%), of which 258 billion from savings bonds and postal savings books (+2,1%) and the remaining 84,6 billion mainly from banks and bond issues. Shareholders' equity amounted to 24,8 billion (+1,5%).

The activity of Cdp has made it possible to attract 27 billion of additional resources of private investors and other territorial, national and supranational institutions, activating a total of 63 billion in investments. To support businesses, through loans, investments and guarantees offered by the group, 30,2 billion were mobilized (84% of the total).

CDP also informs that last year there was a growth in the postal collection by 2,1%, to 258 billion, through savings bonds and postal savings books. Thus "the relaunch of postal savings" continued, with a significant improvement in net inflows (+3,8 billion euro), reads the Cassa press release.

Finally, as regards relations between the top management of the Cassa, Joseph Guzzetti, president of the Cariplo Foundation, said: "I don't know that there are tensions between the president and the CEO", Massimo Tononi and Fabrizio Palermo. “I can say that with great certainty. Then that there are other problems in the Cassa on how the appointments are made is another matter that does not concern the president Tononi ".
