Cdp and Ministry of Tourism: 150 million for the tourist-accommodation heritage. The announcement is underway

Today starts the tender that will select at least 12 Italian properties to acquire and renovate by the end of 2025 in order to enhance and redevelop the Italian tourist accommodation heritage and make the sector more competitive, after the harsh crisis experienced due to the Covid-19 emergency.

The operation will take place through a Real estate fund managed by CDP Immobiliare, a company of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Group, and subscribed by the Ministry of Tourism, with the use of 150 million euros of Pnrr resources.

The call is aimed at public operators and private owners of properties that fall into the "tourist-accommodation" category or similar in possession of the eligibility requirements and the documentation required by the selection procedure. Applications can only be submitted through the dedicated platform by 12.00 on 31 August 2022.

The initiative falls within the ambit of the Pnrr project which aims to enhance, make more competitive and protect the Italian tourist-accommodation heritage, even in economically more disadvantaged areas or in secondary areas. The goal is to start a process of relaunching the sector aimed at increasing the tourist offer through the redevelopment of hotel structures, with attention to sustainability, digitization and energy efficiency.

Il Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, he declared: “With this measure, the government wants to be close to the operators so as to favor the relaunch of the sector and facilitate the recovery of Tourism. Recovery also certified by the recent report of the World Economic Forum which raises the index relating to the tourist offer of Italy by two points, thanks also to the ability of entrepreneurs in the sector to know how to adapt services to a constantly evolving demand. It should be underlined – added the minister – that participation is also open to other institutional investors”.

LChief Executive Officer of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Dario Scannapieco, commented: “Tourism is a driving sector for our country, particularly affected by the pandemic and by the complex international scenario. CDP, in line with the 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, intends to make its contribution by better directing public and private investments in support of the competitiveness of Italian accommodation companies. Thanks to the resources of the Pnrr and the collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, this initiative begins a recovery process that will have a positive impact on the economy and employment, especially among young people”.
