Cdp: 132 million to recover the former Ospedale a Mare on the Venice Lido

Cdp launches two initiatives in the tourism sector as part of the conference entitled "A new investment for Tourism - Employment, training and innovation for an industry that looks to the future" held in Venice.

The first initiative envisages the launch of a collaboration between Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the Veneto Region and the Municipality of Venice aimed at identifying tools and initiatives to support local authorities and businesses in the Veneto area. In Venice Cdp will carry out investments and interventions, among which the recovery plan of the complex of theformer Ospedale a Mare on the Lido which, once redeveloped, will become a hotel managed by the TH Resorts Group and an international class resort managed by Club Med for a total of 525 rooms. The investment will be 132 million euros – of which 9 million euros for urbanization costs – entirely supported by the CDP Group.

“The investment – explains Cdp in a note – will have economic impact on the area, through indirect and induced impacts, estimated at about 77 million euro. Once the structures are up and running, an estimated turnover of 14 million euros a year is estimated employment impact of 500 new jobs”.

As part of the second initiative, CDP will collaborate with TH Resorts and IULM University to create “The Italian Hotel School” within the building complex of the former Ospedale a mare in its future configuration. The project aims to develop the skills and professional profiles most in demand on the labor market through close collaboration with companies in the tourism sector, starting right from the resorts that will be built on site and which will allow for fundamental practice in the field.

“Today we reaffirm our commitment to support a strategic sector for the country such as tourism, he declared Fabrizio Palermo, CEO of CDP who with reference to the initiatives presented today explains: "The demonstration of this great commitment to Venice and to tourism is symbolically linked to the project to relaunch the former Ospedale a Mare, owned by CDP, which will serve as a driving force for the employment development of the city".

"Today - continues the manager - we are in fact presenting an ambitious redevelopment project of an area of great value for the city, with hotel facilities, public works, such as a new health facility, and private services that will give a new face to the Lido island. An important project dedicated to training will also be launched: the Italian Hotel School was born today, which will have its headquarters right here in Venice and will be able to attract young talents from all over the world, help to spread the excellence of the Italian culture of hospitality and support the competitiveness of companies in the sector".
