Catalonia: Puidgemont denounced

Carles Puidgemont has been denounced by Spanish Attorney General José Manuel Maza who has sought the indictment of the former Catalan president on charges of rebellion, sedition and embezzlement. The ministers of his government have been denounced for having allowed the declaration of independence. Former House Speaker Carme Forcadell and members of the Bureau are also under indictment for sedition and rebellion. The prosecutor also indicated the need for a precautionary seizure of assets amounting to 6,2 million euros, linked to the costs for holding the referendum.

A few days ago the Catalan Parliament voted for secession from Spain, to which Madrid responded with the suspension of regional autonomy. However, the arrest of the suspects did not take place. At least for now, the Attorney General has not asked for the preventive arrest of the former Catalan president, his former ministers and the president of the Parlament Forcadell. Maza will wait for the defendants to be heard by the judge to rule on possible precautionary measures. However, if the suspects do not appear before the judges, "immediate detention" could be triggered and risk from 15 to 30 years in prison.

The Barcelona executive is formally dismissed, and a reaction was expected from the members of the Generalitat. And so it was: the former minister for the territory and sustainability, the former president of the Chamber all the same went to the office, as if it were a normal day. But the Mossos d'Esquadra warn: "They will only have time to get documents and personal effects".

Former president Carles Puigdemont is instead in Brussels with five of his advisers to meet some Flemish nationalist exponents. According to rumors, it seems that the dismissed Governor intends to ask for political asylum in Belgium.
