Catalonia: President of Parlament arrested

Preventive prison for Carme Forcadell, president of the Catalan Parliament, accused of rebellion and sedition - Bail set at 150 thousand euros - 4 other deputies will have to pay a bail of 25 thousand euros within a week to avoid prison.

After the members of the Government, the time has come for those of the Chamber. The judges have no intention of letting go of the supporters of Catalan independence.

At 10 yesterday evening, the investigating judge Pablo Llarrena of the Supreme Court of Madrid ordered preventive detention for Carme Forcadell, president of the Catalan Parliament, accused of rebellion and sedition like the former governor Carles Puigdemont and the other members of the Generalitat. Her "fault" is that of having put the resolutions on the independence of the rebel region to the vote despite numerous warnings from Madrid. Forcadell will be released from prison if and when she posts bail of 150 euros.

Another deputy, a non-sovereignist, was released, while 4 others will have to pay a bail of 25 euros within a week to avoid prison.

Forcadell was the last of the elected officials left to this day at large. Vice-President Junqueras is already in prison with 7 other members of the dismissed government. Puigdemont, together with four other ministers, is instead in Belgium, awaiting the response of the Brussels authorities on the international arrest order with extradition request. In the meantime, the Catalan president has announced the creation of a "legitimate government" structure in exile. What it means and how it wants to govern remains a mystery at the moment.

All are charged with rebellion and sedition and face up to 30 years in prison.
