Silvio Berlusconi was the "creator of the mechanism of the circle of rights which after years continued to produce (illegal) effects of tax reduction for the companies controlled by him in various ways". This is what we read in the motivations of the Cassation on the Mediaset sentence which confirmed the conviction of the Cavaliere for tax fraud.
"The system organized by Silvio Berlusconi - the members of the working section point out - made it possible to illegally maintain and feed foreign assets, current accounts held in the name of other companies which were in turn held in the name of Berlusconi's trustees".
The former prime minister, "knowing the mechanism perfectly, let everything continue unchanged - reads the sentence - keeping the individuals he chose in strategic positions and who continued to deal with management so as to allow Mediaset's costs to continue to rise purposes of tax evasion".
