Bnl-Unipol case, Fazio and Caltagirone sentenced to three and a half years

Four more months for Giovanni Consorte, Francesco Frasca, former head of supervision of Bank of Italy, acquitted - This is the sentence of the first section of the Court of Milan.

Bnl-Unipol case, Fazio and Caltagirone sentenced to three and a half years

Three years and six months in prison and a fine of 1,3 million euros. This is the sentence decided by Court of Milan for Antonio Fazio, former governor of the Bank of Italy, in the context of the trial on attempted takeover of BNL by Unipol, dating back to 2005. The same term of imprisonment was also established for the publisher Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone.

Even more serious instead the verdict for John Consort, former number one of Unipol, sentenced to three years and ten months and to the payment of a 1,3 million euro fine. Finally absolution for Francis Frasca, former head of the surveillance of via Nazionale.

The defendants were accused for various reasons of insider trading, obstruction of supervisory activities and insider trading. Unipol will have to pay a fine of 720 thousand euros. The judges also established a provisional amount of 15 million euros for the Bank.
