Today, September 7, a round table is convened at the Ministry of Economic Development to discuss the dispute also with the Finnish multinational

Wartsila case, Fim Cisl asks the MiSE to extend the closure procedure by at least 6 months

Wartsila close to reckoning. The multinational, which in Trieste deals with the production of engines for shipbuilding (including Fincantieri), in mid-July announced the termination of what had been the headquarters of Grandi Motori, to transfer it to Finland. "We await a clear statement from both the Minister for Economic Development Giorgetti and the Minister of Labor Orlando on behalf of the Government, on the timing of the procedure and on the industrial future of the Bagnoli site", said the Fim Cisl National Secretary Maximilian Nobis and the national coordinator Fim Cisl Mauro Masci on the eve of the table to discuss the dispute at the MiSE.

A nice cold shower in the hottest summer ever and which touched not only the workers and their families but the entire community which decided to demonstrate to ask for withdrawal of the procedure by the Finnish multinational. On Saturday in Trieste, 15 workers, families, industrialists and representatives of local institutions paraded along the streets of the Julian city and filled Piazza d'Unita d'Italia. "In these 55 days there has also been extraordinary support for the dispute also from port workers", highlighted Nobis and Masci.

Fim Cisl on the Wartsila case: "Treacherous relocation"

"The procedure launched by the multinational on 14 July is regulated by the new law (No. 234 of December 2021) on company disposals which provides for a total duration of 90 days to find the conditions to 'guarantee the protection of the employment and production fabric' – the trade unionists continue -. 55 days have already gone by, it is unthinkable that in just 35 days a solution can be found to this 'treacherous relocation' which provides for the transfer of marine engine production e of propellers for power plants in Finland with the dismissal of 451 workers out of 937 currently employed at the production site”.

Fim Cisl: "Procedure suspension for at least 6 months"

Then the request. "If Wärtsilä's will, as stated in the meeting of 27 July at the MiSE, is to respond to the purpose of the Law, you agree to open a table and work on an industrial solution that maintains the current production and employment assets".

As regards the policy on the Wartsila case and the many statements made these days, the Fim Cisl expects "concrete actions in support of this sector by declaring, in the ministerial seat, how strategic it is for the shipbuilding supply chain and for the country, thus being able to intervene on the machinery and on the plant now owned by the multinational".

Giorgetti's "Sea Industry" project

“On Wednesday we will also understand if the project of the marine industry announced by Minister Giorgetti, on the margins of the meeting at the MiSE on 27 July, is an electoral spot or a support plan for the sector which provides for research and investments with resources of the Pnrr”, continue the trade unionists.

The mandate received from the Trieste community is precise. “More than 120 years of industrial history of Grandi Motori navali cannot be dismantled if there is not an alternative that is at least equal in terms of industrial prestige and employment size”, conclude Nobis and Masci.
