Del Turco case: Lega and M5s, shame on you, but where is Casellati?

The vengeful populism of Lega and Cinque Stelle which in the Senate caused the suspension of the pension of a weak and seriously ill person like Ottaviano Del Turco is simply inhumane – But does President Casellati have nothing to say?

Del Turco case: Lega and M5s, shame on you, but where is Casellati?

Call it what you want, but in reality the recent decision of the Senate Presidency council on the Del Turco case can only be defined in one way: persistence, shameful fury against a weak and very sick man. The move by the League and the Five Stars to omit the quorum in the council meeting to prevent the extension of the pension allowance for a person, first tormented by a thousand judicial vicissitudes and now by dramatic health conditions, like the former number 2 of the CGIL and former secretary of the PSI, Ottaviano Del Turco is simply disgusting. Or, if you prefer, crap.

And even more so are the squalid and specious reasons put in place by the Five Stars to reject the extension of the pension, which - let's clarify it once and for all - is not a privilege of the caste but the result of a contract duly signed and paid for by the recipient for a sort of supplementary pension. The proposal of the Senate Presidency council to extend the pension allowance, ambiguously called annuity, had been put forward for "humanitarian reasons" given the dramatic economic and health situation in which Del Turco finds himself. And do you know what the response of the pentastellati was? “There is no reason to make an exception”. But how is it not there? Only a populist and reactionary conception, as the former senator of the Democratic Party, Luigi Manconi, who unfortunately knows about health problems, well wrote in last Saturday's Foglio, can inspire such an inhuman and falsely egalitarian response as that of the League and of the Five Stars.

But the Del Turco case is too striking for it to pass casually in cavalry and if Lega and Cinque Stelle have only to be ashamed of what they have done, the serious responsibilities of the President of the Senate, Maria Elisabetta Casellati, cannot pass in silence either seems to have succumbed to crazy populist ideas of Northern League and pentastellati without evaluating the thousand legal doubts, well described on the Reformist by Giuliano Cazzola, on the suspension of Del Turco's pension, which from the second position in the state deserve a very serious reflection and above all without intolerable prejudices that have not yet existed view.
