Carrefour throws in the towel in Greece, where hopes of economic recovery are so nil as to convince the managers of the French group to sell their entire shareholding in the local Marinopoulos branch.

The multinational, which also announced the strategic withdrawal from Cyprus, Bulgaria and Albania, preferred to carry out the operation also at the cost of paying the penalty, which is around 220 million euros.

In parallel, however, Carrefour announced in the morning that it has purchased 129 supermarkets in Argentina. The Paris Stock Exchange is rewarding this change of course: Carrefour shares have already gained more than 2% by mid-morning.
