Carrefour: union agreement on 580 layoffs

There is a happy ending for the Carrefour dispute, which concerns 580 employees involved in the restructuring of the sales network. The trade unions Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs, informs a press release, have signed an agreement with the company management on the collective dismissal procedure launched by the French multinational of large-scale retail trade for 580 male and female workers employed in 32 of the 50 hypermarkets present in Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont, Liguria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tuscany, Marche, Lazio and Sardinia.

The termination of employment relationships will take place exclusively on a voluntary basis, with an important redundancy incentive aimed at guaranteeing the purchasing power of workers who will be able to receive the difference between the naspi allowance and the gross salary - around 33 thousand euros gross for a IV medium level full time – to which will be added an additional incentive of 8 thousand euros for those who formalize voluntary exit by 16 July 2019 and 4 thousand euros for those who formalize voluntary exit from 16 July to 15 August 2019.

The agreement, continues the press release, also contemplates internal relocation processes in minor formats in the super and express channels as well as support for re-employment with a specific individual outplacement service lasting six months. The agreement postpones the discussion of specific operational measures aimed at dealing with individual situations of redundancy to the territorial level. A national meeting will be held by 15 October to evaluate the outcome of the local comparisons and the organizational and employment impacts of the e-commerce model.

According to the national secretary of Fisascat Cisl, Vicenzo Dell'Orefice, "at the end of a close and articulated discussion, the management of Carrefour and the unions shared a fundamental part of the complex restructuring process of the hypermarket format". The trade unionist underlines in particular “the shared measures aimed at offering redeployment solutions for the workers affected by the layoffs strongly desired by the trade union organisations. This path is based on an integrated logic of structuring the redundancy management plan and will allow, on the basis of the will of each individual worker, also the possibility of professional retraining".
