Italy is increasingly poor. According to Istat, between 2007 and 2010 are increased by 13,8% people who, despite having a home, a job and a family, have to face serious economic hardships. In overall terms, poor Italians are over 8 million and 200 thousand.
The territorial differences are important: in the Messogiorno, in fact, the increase reached a peak of 74%. The data is contained in the latest Caritas-Fondazione Zancan report.
Another decisive distinction is the generational one. Between 2005 and 2010 the young people who joined the ranks of the "new poor" increased by 59,6%. 76,1% of these do not study or work.
