Carige: Toscafund with 5,1%, is the third shareholder

Among Carige's shareholders is the English fund Toscafund Asset Management. According to Consob communications, the British fund led by Martin Hughes holds 5,119% of the Genoese bank, standing out as the third shareholder after Malacalza Investimenti (17,58%) and Gabriele Volpi's The Summer Trust (6,1%). Norges Bank, on the other hand, reduced its stake in the Ligurian bank from 2,1% to 1,975%.

Toscafund had entered Carige for the first time in the spring of 2014. On that occasion, the British asset manager had been among the buyers of the tranche of shares, equal to 11% of the capital, which the Carige Foundation (then the reference shareholder of the Genoese bank) had been placed with institutional investors on the eve of the capital increase in the summer of 2014. In that case, the package purchased had not been of a significant nature such as to require a communication to Consob.

At the last shareholders' meeting, held in April 2015, the fund had not presented itself and therefore had not provided any updates on its participation. His entry into Carige in 2014, again according to press rumors, coincided with his investment in the shareholding structure of Monte dei Paschi di Siena.
