Carige allies with Nexi: assets sold for 25 million

A 10-year partnership on payment products and services begins between Banca Carige and Nexi. The agreement, according to a note, provides for the sale of the merchant acquiring business by the bank to Nexi Payments, controlled by Nexi, for 25 million euro. This is a business that Banca Carige manages by distributing products and services to approximately 20 customers through its network of branches in Italy.

In 2017 Merchant Acquiring carried out transactions for a total volume of 1,8 billion. Banca Carige, making use of new solutions designed and developed by Nexi, will thus be able to accelerate the use of cards for small daily payments, offering customers the new range of credit and debit cards that allow digital payments.

The partnership could generate commissions of approximately 15 million euro, while the closing of the transaction, expected in the second half of the year, is subject to authorization by the Bank of Italy.
