Carige: Bper wants to try again if Parliament helps

If the Government and Parliament decide to extend the tax allocations for the merging banks to 30 June 2022, the Bper-Carige operation could reopen but without a preventive recapitalization of one billion requested by the Emilian bank and already rejected by the Interbank Fund

Carige: Bper wants to try again if Parliament helps

The coup of a preventive recapitalization of Carige by one billion euros requested from the Interbank Fund failed, Bper doesn't want to let go and it seems oriented towards granting a discount to reopen the game on the Ligurian bank.

Much will depend on one possible amendment to dMilleproroghe ecreto which, in the Government's intentions, could extend to 30 June the tax allocations for banks that decide to merge and which, according to what "la Repubblica" writes today, could reach 360 million for Bper. It probably won't be enough to induce the Emilian bank, of which Unipol holds 20%, to relaunch on Carige but yes to sit down at the negotiating table with the Interbank Deposit Protection Fund.

Bper has already written to the Fund, which could give an initial response today, to show its willingness - also in the light of possible parliamentary news - to re-discuss the entire rescue operation of Banca Carige but for sure, if the matter reopens, times will not be very short as he had initially imagined the bank is Emilian. But if there is white smoke, it could be the first step towards a new season of banking combinations. And it is no coincidence that the Stock Exchange keeps an eye on the shares of the two banks which gained 3,1% (Bper) and 1,66% (Carige) on Tuesday
