Coal 2020: French private equity against global warming

French private equity funds launch the initiative Carbon 2020. Apax Partners, Ardian, Eurazeo, LBO France, and PAI Partners, among the major partners in the growth of many small and large companies, in France and not only that, they have decided to launch a program aimed at reducing global warming.

The five funds, all members of theAFIC (French private equity association) represent around 70 billion in controlled assets. Their initiative represents the first joint commitment of the French private equity sector, and requires, above all, responsible and transparent management of gas emissions by the companies that are part of the companies' investment portfolios.

The signatories of the Coal 2020 Initiative have decided to move in a way that contributes to the objectives of the CoP21, which aims to limit global warming by two degrees Celius. Supported by the PwC methodology, the five private equity groups tested and formalized a common long-term approach to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of their investments.

Among other things, the five groups will publish the direct and indirect emission of climate-altering gases by their companies in cooperation with their management. The signatories also hope to share both methodology and efforts with groups active in every sector.
