Car sharing, companies are asking to cut VAT from 22 to 10%: "Only in this way can the service reach everyone"

For Assosharing, the reduction of VAT would make it possible to extend car sharing to areas of the country that are currently uncovered, reducing pollution and the impact of expensive fuel

Car sharing, companies are asking to cut VAT from 22 to 10%: "Only in this way can the service reach everyone"

Lower the VAT on car sharing and all shared mobility from 22 to 10% to increase accessibility to services. This was requested by Assosharing during a conference organized in the Chamber for the first anniversary of the birth of the association, according to which "a dialogue" on this issue has already been started with the institutions.

From January +10% for the use of car sharing

The measure could help many people to reduce the economic damage caused by the rise in fuel prices, which began months ago due to the inflation of energy raw materials and is now aggravated by the war between Ukraine and Russia. In fact, the association of sustainable mobility companies informs that between January and March, "increases of 10% for car sharing and 35% for micromobility" were recorded.

The lowering of VAT on the sector from 22 to 10%, continues Assosharing, would allow companies to increase investments in two directions.

Assosharing: "With less VAT, more vehicles and more offer"

"On the one hand - writes the association in a note - the offer of sharing mobility and in particular of car sharing would be strengthened, thus increasing the ability of providers to enlarge and renew fleets - which at national level number just over 7.000 vehicles - and laying the foundations for an increase in operators and supply - currently confined mostly to large urban centers - in other areas of the country currently uncovered".

“We would also increase investment in car sharing safety”

Other resources, on the other hand, would be used "to strengthen safety profiles, especially in micro-mobility, thanks to an implementation of technological devices and the activation of an even greater number of special training courses, especially in schools".

The effects on pollution

Supporting car sharing "would mean increasing the use of a service that significantly reduces the traffic of private cars and therefore also pollution - concludes the note - It should in fact be remembered that Italy, according to data from the European Union, stands at second place (behind only Luxembourg) in motorization rate. At the same time, our country records every year - based on 2019 data from the European Environment Agency - about 49 deaths from fine particles and 10.640 from nitrogen dioxide".
