Group leaders: Delrio and Marcucci for the Democratic Party, Bernini and Gelmini for FI

The parties have appointed the group leaders in the Chamber and in the Senate: Forza Italia in the name of women and Berlusconi, Pd with Renzi's faithful (the dem minorities will presumably go to the vice-presidencies of the Chambers), as forecast the choices of the Movimento 5 Stelle and League.

The lines of Renzi and Berlusconi win. The group leaders chosen by the Democratic Party and Forza Italia for the Chamber and the Senate are all four close to the two leaders: a choice in the name of renewal and women's quotas for the centre-right party, with Anna Maria Bernini – who had also been the ex Cavaliere's second choice for the presidency of Palazzo Madama – group leader in the Senate and the iron Berlusconi Maria Stella Gelmini to represent FI in Montecitorio.

The Democratic Party has instead opted for Graziano Delrio, very loyal to the former prime minister but a figure who has always been conciliatory with respect to the various souls of the party and of the centre-left, in the Chamber and for the very Renziani Andrew Marcucci in the Senate. The name of Lorenzo Guerini had also been mentioned for Palazzo Madama. In the end, thanks to the mediation of the pro tempore secretary Maurizio Martina, a balance was found between the dem components, with the vice-presidencies of the Chambers which could at this point go to representatives of the Pd minorities.

The assembly of deputies of the 5 Star Movement has instead chosen Giulia Grillo as group leader in the Chamber by acclamation, while in the Senate the pentastellati formally elected Danilo Toninelli. The League finally opted for Gian Marco Centinaio in Montecitorio and Giancarlo Giorgetti at Palazzo Madama.
