Rai fee, reimbursement at the start: who can request it, when and how

From Thursday 15 September, citizens who have paid the RAI license fee in the electricity bill despite not being due will be able to submit the request for reimbursement prepared by the Revenue Agency electronically.

RAI FEE: WHO CAN REQUEST A REFUND

Citizens who, despite having submitted the declaration of non-possession of the TV set within the set deadline (May 16, 2016), have received a charge of 70 euros in the first bill after July 1, can apply for a refund.

Taxpayers who have paid a "double fee" are also entitled to a refund, i.e. in the event that the heavy tax has been charged to two different utilities belonging to the same family (for example on a first and second home) regardless of whether whether they are made out to the same person or to different family members.

In the latter case, by sending the model it will also be possible to communicate the tax code of the family member who already pays the fee on his bill, and who will be the only one who will have to continue paying it. Finally, the request for reimbursement can be forwarded by the heirs in relation to the fee charged to a utility in the name of a deceased person.

We also remind you that the current legislation provides that the Rai license fee does not have to be paid:

– by taxpayers over 75 with a total family income not exceeding 6.713,98 euros

– by taxpayers subject to international agreements (foreign diplomats and military)

In the event that citizens belonging to these categories have received the charge, they will therefore be able to request a refund of the amount paid. In the form, the box specifying the reasons for which the fee is not due must be crossed.

RAI FEE: REFUND TIMES

The refunds will arrive within 45 days of receipt of the application by the Revenue Agency and will be disbursed by the electricity companies themselves. The latter will be able to choose from various options: credit the 70 euros on the first available invoice, by sending a check to the electricity user, etc.

 In the event that the refund procedure is not successful, the sum will be paid directly by the Revenue Agency.

RAI FEE: HOW TO REQUEST A REFUND

The refund request can be submitted starting from 15 September 2016, using various methods:

– through the web application of the Revenue Agency, using the access credentials of the telematic services;

– through Caf;

– using the paper model available on the Agency website and on the Rai website dedicated to the license fee

In the latter case, the model must be sent, together with a copy of an identification document, by registered mail to the following address: Agenzia delle Entrate, Provincial Directorate 1 of Turin, Turin Office 1, SAT – TV subscription desk – Casella Post Office 22 – 10121 Turin.
