Free cannabis, 218 parliamentarians present a bill

218 parliamentarians have signed the transversal bill for the legalization of cannabis in Italy. The proposal, which was submitted by Benedict DellaVedova, points to the legalization of possession for adults (15 grams at home and 5 outside the home) and cultivation and use for adults. In any case, the sale, smoking in public places and driving in a state of impairment would remain prohibited.

The signatories are part of various political alignments: ranging from the 5 Star Movement to the Democratic Party, passing through Sel and the Misto group, to which is added a very small contingent of Forza Italia parliamentarians: two, Antonio Martino and Monica Faenza.

According to Della Vedova, "today cannabis is mass consumption but the market is criminal - Della Vedova underlined - anyone who consumes cannabis bring money to the mafias. We say that cannabis must be legalized, taxed and controlled. We need to dissuade the use of the cane within a legal framework”.

Beyond the rather transversal support garnered by the initiative, and the enthusiasm of the 5 Stars, many opposing positions remain, especially in the centre-right. What makes noise is above all that of the secretary of the League Matteo Salvini: “I am in favor of the legalization of prostitution because, until proven otherwise, sex does not hurt. Cannabis yes”.
