MILAN CHAMPIONSHIP – Inter says goodbye to Europe, Ancelotti does not return to Milan

End of the run. L'Inter lose the play-off against Genoa and, barring a miracle, he says goodbye to the next Europa League. If Sampdoria beat Empoli (12.30) they will become unreachable and even if they are stopped by Sarri's men, they will still have another match point in the next round against Parma. All this if UEFA continues to deny the license to Genoa: conversely, in fact, the Europa League would have already escaped mathematically. It is unlikely that the High Court of Coni would agree with Preziosi, yet the rossoblu, understood as a team, deserve this and more. It is they, together with Juventus, who play the best football in Italy and yesterday they proved it too. The 3-2 by Marassi it was a real spot for our Serie A, except for some referee errors which, unfortunately, continue to ruin matches. Three penalties denied (two for Inter and one for Genoa), two missed expulsions (both for the Rossoblu), a couple of goals disallowed (again for the Nerazzurri) which raise many perplexities: in short, Tagliavento's was not exactly a happy evening… This, however, must not detract from the merits of the home team, who certainly deserved the victory. On the other hand, Inter must recite a nice mea culpa: with a defense like this it is impossible to achieve great goals. “Apart from this referee, who is not very lucky with us, we make too many mistakes – thought Mancini. – We are sorry to say goodbye to Europe but this doesn't change our strategies: our players are good and, with some quality additions, they will improve”. The coach from Jesi makes an effort to look at the glass as half full, with the awareness (not too hidden) of having to prepare for a good revolution. Even yesterday his Inter proved to be incomplete: twice in the lead (first with Icardi in the 19th minute, then with Palacio in the 30th minute), they were caught up (Pavoletti in the 24th minute and Lestienne in the 41st minute) and overtaken ( Kucka in the 89th minute). The defensive flaws were embarrassing, above all the one that led to Lestienne's 2-2: Handanovic (otherwise unbeatable) and Ranocchia would have made Mai dire Gol happy.

This evening it will be the turn of the Milan, engaged in the postponement against Turin (20.45 pm). In Via Aldo Rossi, however, little is thought about the match and much about the future. Which, according to recent events, seems to be shrouded in endless chaos. While awaiting corporate developments, the new coach is also a good puzzle and yesterday helped to deepen the mystery. While Inzaghi spoke at the press conference flaunting an almost inexplicable certainty ("I also have a contract for next year, no one has exempted me and the rumors are just fantasies"), Berlusconi spoke on Naples TV, releasing what, at the time, seemed to be an interview-sentence. “Usually I'm not in favor of returning but I have a strong personal friendship with Ancelotti – explained the Rossoneri president. – If Real let him go, he will return to Milan and will have his own staff who will support him in his work ”. Statements from the front page, except that Ancelotti, immediately after the match against Getafe (won 7-3, hat-trick by Cristiano Ronaldo), froze everyone in the press conference. "I thank Berlusconi for the trust but I have already decided: either I stay in Madrid or I will stay for a year" are Carletto's unequivocal words. In short, there will be no encore marriage, which makes Milan's future even more nebulous. Who, in the meantime, is preparing to play the last match of the season at the San Siro. Inzaghi will challenge a Turin still in the running for Europe with the usual 4-3-3, with Honda, Pazzini and El Shaarawy (starter again after 4 months) in attack. But this, as mentioned above, is of very little interest. With such a black present (it was since 1958 that Milan and Inter were not both without European cups) it is inevitable to think about the future. On the other hand, for Milan football, it can only go better because worse than this you die.
